“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.”

Community Development

Community development means engaging in activities that bring about social, economic, cultural, environmental and political development of the community as a whole. In every society there are three kinds of communities namely urban, suburban and rural. While some people, group or communities enjoy all the benefits; others are ostracized and oppressed. Through community development the main objective is to ensure that all communities have equal access to health, wealth, opportunity, wellbeing and justice.

Community Development initiatives help communities to:

  • Improve quality of life
  • Reduce poverty
  • Adopt healthy lifestyle
  • Be responsible
  • Create employment opportunities
  • Achieve self-empowerment

At Avid

The United Nations defines community development as “a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems.” In community development the values of social justice, human rights, equality and respect for diversity are of great significance. As part of community development, people come together to find solutions to common problems.

There are many people out there who want to help uplift the underprivileged community. At Avid we provide people with an avenue to contribute towards the society. We undertake projects that require collective action that range from small initiatives to large initiatives. The different community development programmes that we undertake include:
